monica and matt’s beautiful belle isle wedding in detroit.
phew. what a long weekend. movement, aka the detroit electronic music festival flies though the city like a multi-colored, drug-induced, thumping tornado of electronic music every year over the memorial day weekend. this year i was lucky enough to document the occasion for paxahau, the production company that makes movement happen year in and year out. i was placed in charge of the electric forest stage, making sure every artist was photographed and i thought i’d share some of my favorite frames.
awesome senior portrait session last week with the lovely micah. whole session up this week!
for the past few months, the small but popular detroit cafe, stella international coffee, has been remodeling their fisher location, leaving only their guardian building location open during construction. It might have been a slight inconvenience to fisher building regulars, but most who have seen the newly remodeled location can agree that it was well worth the wait. the detroit-centric cafe went all out on the new look. new logo, new branding, new everything. they hired the popular reclaim detroit to gather wood from a beautiful decaying home, slated for demolition. the wood pulled from the house was re-milled and used to build just about everything made of wood in the cafe (countertops and etc.). the lampshades were designed by a local artist an produced by another pair of detroiter’s notorious for their unique wallpaper design and manufacturing. Even the architect, james willer, an ltu graduate played a huge hand in the actual construction and carpentry involved in the remodel. all and all this is a beautiful, modern and sleek cafe, designed and built from the ground up for detroit, by detroit. i was lucky enough to be selected to get first glimpse and photograph the cafe for the purpose of press. the soft opening started this week so drop on by and grab some good coffee.
